As the summer is winding down, I have been spending more of my days at Coney Island, where many New Yorkers come together to enjoy the beach, sun, amusement park rides and people watching.
Harvey Stein is a street photographer who has been capturing these moments for decades now. In 2011, he published the book “Coney Island 40 Years” to showcase some of his collection.
Although some of his imagery captures candid moments, he more often has close interactions with his subjects. Using a wide angle lens he is able to show the people and the place together. His approach helps to bring the viewer more into the energy of this iconic location.
