Essential Lighting & Studio (6 weeks)

Who should take this class

Photographers who are adept at using their cameras but want to more deeply explore the technical and creative possibilities of studio lighting are invited to take this accelerated 6-week lab course.  If you've taken Field Guide IV: The Studio and would like to practice and expand on this knowledge, you've come to the right place.

What you will learn

This methodical approach to learning studio photography begins with analyzing lighting in well-known photographs and breaking down the setups, tools and techniques required to accomplish these images.   Each week we'll tackle one essential factor of lighting, from single-light setups to complex multiple-light setups, using modifiers, backgrounds, and various light sources to deliver precise and amazing results.

Through a combination of theory and practice, you'll learn the techniques used by studio photographers and lighting professionals to mimic sunlight, control shadows and contrast, define subjects, as well as how to create polished, professional studio portraits and high-fashion imagery with in-studio models and subjects.

What to bring

Your camera.  Additional lenses you may have are encouraged.

Completion of intro level photo course (such as Digital Photo I or Field Guide I: The Camera) required.
