During the 80's and 90's photographer Charles Peterson documented the rebellious birth of Grunge, the era of music that grabbed Seattle and the world by its throat. His photos faithfully captured the seedy clubs polluted with angsty youth and the raw power of live performances by famous bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Sleater-Kinney, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, L7, Hole, and Black Flag. “Amidst the chaos of a live show, I wanted to find that sense of grace,” says Peterson. “I wanted people to experience what it was like being there; the sweat, the noise, being pushed against each other.”
A retrospective of Peterson's music photos captured with the Leica M series will open at the Leica Store at the Bellevue Mall near Seattle, Washington on March 12th, 2015.
