Who should take this class?

Those more experienced shooters who want to explore their creative ideas and have an interest in documentary photography, photojournalism, travel photography, street style blogs, environmental portraits, or any location-based art or genre photography. And it's a great course for those who want to freshen up their skills and feel the motivation to spend the whole day with their camera.


What you will learn

Whether the location is unfamiliar to you or part of your daily routine, this is an opportunity to learn how to respond to your surroundings through the eye of the camera. Through guided but loose assignments you will learn to train your eye and your lens on the details surrounding you. Much as a scavenger hunt can spur creativity and heightened awareness you'll discover ways to apply your personal vision within this given environment.  

We'll be on location for the entire duration of Field Guide III.  Meeting locations (within the 5 boroughs) will be disclosed at least two days before class.  Instructors will hand out assignments and a map of the area, then students will get to work:  

- Understanding your environment and maximizing it
- Photographing people you don't know (yet)
- How a scene can change depending on the time of day
- Being fearless and trying new things


What to bring

Field Guide III will meet rain or shine, so be prepared and dress appropriately.  A DSLR is preferred but not required.  Once you're registered, you'll receive detailed instructions on meeting time, location and what additionally, if anything, to bring.
 

Prerequisites

Field Guide III: On Location is not for beginners.  If you are not already comfortable and proficient with controlling exposure through aperture / shutter speed / ISO, color (white balance), motion blur and the like, please consider taking Field Guide I and/or Field Guide II first, or Digital Photo I: The Basics.
